The Bridge Dancers

When a storm blows in and her daring older sister is badly injured, timid Maisie must decide whether to cross the swaying mountain bridge she fears most to fetch her mother. As wind and darkness close in, Maisie turns to the healing plants she has watched her mother use and discovers that courage does not always mean doing the most dangerous thing.

In this Carl Sandburg Award-winning picture book, two Black sisters in a rural mountain community learn that love and steady resolve can carry a person farther than fear.
